About the Artist
Lou Koch is a non-binary artist who uses many types of medium in their creative practice, displaying a particular emphasis on mixed media and sculptural artmaking. They were raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin (USA) until 2021 where they relocated to Ottawa, Ontario (Canada) to pursue a BFA in Fine and Visual Arts at the University of Ottawa as well as escape the United States' increasingly hostile political scene. Their experience of being a queer individual within this context as well as an avid appreciator of the outdoors has greatly influenced their artistic development. Throughout Koch's work, there are many themes of genderless existence, punk culture, the divinity of natural spaces, and the religiosity of the self and the environment we live in. They ask questions relating to human existence that encourages the viewer to contemplate and challenge current and intersectional issues.
